“Sometimes podcasting can feel so isolated, particularly when you are outside of the centres of power - I love that we get to add our voices to the global conversation, and also connect with makers that otherwise we would never get to encounter.”

Aleya Kassam

Aleya Kassam is a Kenyan feminist, storyteller, writer, and performer. She is a co-founder of the award winning content studio, The LAM Sisterhood, which fills the world with stories for African women to feel seen, heard, and beloved.

The LAM Sisterhood works in multiple mediums which include: KaBrazen, our children’s podcast which reimagines the stories of brazen African women for little ones. Two seasons are currently available in both English and Kiswahili. It won the APVA Award for Best Children's Podcast 2023, and has been nominated for the same category this year.

As part of LAM Sisterhood she was co-creator of the transmedia Universe of stories 'The Mysteries of Jabali and Sauti' with over 45 stories in English and Kiswahili in audio, picture books, comics, animations and motion comics.

LAM Sisterhood were commissioned to co-create a behaviour change radio soap opera series in English and Madi, with a group of youth leaders in the West Nile Region of Uganda. The series is called 'Rumour Has It/Kosi Kosi' and has been listened to be over 1 million radio listeners.

In 2019, their video parodying the New York Times Africa Bureau Chief job advert went unexpectedly viral, with over 1 million views in 2020 and led to an apology by the New York Times International Editor Michael Slackman and a retraction of the ad.

Brazen Podcast (in development...any takers?) was shortlisted for the Google PRX Podcast awards as well as a BBC podcast award.

Aleya is speaking on the Audio Drama and Storytelling Panel alongside Ella Watts and Jess Hamilton.
