“The idea of a podcast festival that recognizes and celebrates women in the field is wonderful. The opportunity to meet, learn from, and collaborate with women in various areas of podcasting is an extraordinary experience.”

Amara Kofer

Amara Cofer is the creator, host and executive producer of Black Girl Gone: A True Crime Podcast. The show is centered on stories about missing and murdered black women and women of color in America. In 2021, Amara created Black Girl Gone after noticing a lack of representation of black women in true crime stories. Due to the lack of attention their cases attract, cases involving missing and murdered black women are less likely to be solved.

Over the past year, Black Girl Gone has amassed over 1.5 million downloads and is available in more than 100 countries. Amara has appeared on Democracy Now and Al Jazeera's The Stream to discuss the issues surrounding the underreporting of these stores in the media and America's obsession with the Missing White Woman Syndrome. At the festival Amara will be hosting a workshop called Fight the power: Building community through audio activism
